About Ontaim
Ontaim is a young startup founded in Chile in 2020 by Juan Pablo Flores that provides its clients across numerous industries the best attention option according to geolocalization, waiting and travel times, and the service this client needs through a web platform. That way, Ontaim has improved people's experience when making an appointment for a specific branch knowing beforehand how many clients are in the waiting line.
This was particularly helpful during the pandemic when many businesses had reduced capacity to mitigate the virus spread. On the flip side, companies that choose Ontaim services get access to comprehensive traceability of the client's journey from the moment they get in touch to request an appointment, tracing all the steps on their way. That way, companies can improve their services, consequently impacting their revenue stream.
Challenges in identifying US target market
Ontaim's team was aware of the scalability and expansion potential of the company's services which is why they set their focus on the US market. However, despite the enthusiasm for bringing their business to North America, they realized they had yet to learn if there was a real necessity and customers for the product. Questions like "who was their target client in the US?" and "which companies could be potential clients?" showed up, facing them with new challenges.
Narrowing the focus
As a young company, it was their first approach to the US market, and after analyzing their options, the Ontaim team joined ProChile's GoGlobal program to participate in Base Miami's Market Entry Bootcamp. With Miami positioning as a gateway for LatAm companies, Ontaim's CEO and founder thought it was easier to land and expand from there to other regions than doing the whole process from Latin America.
During the program, the team realized the company had, indeed, a scalable product. However, Base Miami's MEB helped Ontaim realize there was more growth potential if they first focused on underserved countries across Latin America rather than the US. Therefore, they could narrow their focus on improving people's lives in underdeveloped countries that completely lack these types of services.
Base Miami's Market Entry Bootcamp helped Ontaim find its expansion sweet spot
After finishing Base Miami's MEB, Ontaim's team was more aware of where they should focus their efforts. The company has already landed with their services in Peru and Colombia, and they are planning the expansion to Mexico. Additionally, they have also closed an important deal with a leading telecommunications company in Chile, helping them improve their services and the customer experience.
What they said
“Base Miami’s program is very dynamic. What we liked the most was the close and dedicated support from the executive team and also the connections within their network of investors and experts with technical knowledge of the US market that know how to help startups flourish. The program has also helped us narrow our focus to provide our services in underserved regions across Latin America. Thanks to that approach we are delivering our services in Peru and Colombia, and planning to expand to Mexico.” Juan Pablo Flores - CEO and Founder Ontaim
